Activate Maine

WHAT WE ARE

I needed to know where to go. Turns out so did a lot of Mainers. Activate Maine was born.

Activate Maine is your statewide civic hub — handbuilt, volunteer-powered, and running on the same stubborn belief that got women into factories, unions onto the floor, and neighbors onto each other’s porches: that ordinary people, organized together, are unstoppable.

No algorithm. No corporate backing. No days off.

Just Mainers, showing up.

Founded by a disabled organizer. Fiscally sponsored by Maine People’s Alliance. Powered by people who believe democracy needs tending every day — not just the days that make the news.

WHAT WE’RE BUILDING

Every movement needs infrastructure. Ours is still being built. We’re working toward a library of issue toolkits — plain-language explainers on the fights that keep coming up, paired with concrete actions you can take. So nobody has to start from scratch every time something drops.

We have the vision. Want to be part of the form?

The poster doesn’t say “We Can Do It — Unless It’s Inconvenient.” Together We Can Do It. And we meant it.

Activate Maine runs on real people doing real tasks that keep this resource alive for up to 20,000 Mainers a month. We work in teams so nobody’s out there alone. And most of it takes less time than you think.

Here’s where we need hands right now:

Event Submission — Know about something happening in Maine? Put it on the map. Town halls, mutual aid drives, educational events, community meetings, actions — if it helps Mainers show up, submit it.

Calendar Screening — Review and publish submitted events. The work that keeps the calendar trustworthy.

Content & Education — Blog posts, issue explainers, toolkit content. If you can write clearly for a general audience, we need you at the table.

Social Media — Drafting and scheduling posts and keeping our presence out there. Community Moderation — Keep our comments sections supportive and constructive. Low time commitment, real impact.

Graphic Design — Social graphics, visual assets, flyers. We have an established visual identity and we’re building out the toolkit to match.

WordPress & Site Maintenance — Routine upkeep plus rapid response when something big drops and Mainers need a resource right now.

Volunteer Coordination — Help bring new volunteers in and keep the team moving.

Nonprofit Operations — Activate Maine has grown fast and we’re ready to grow smarter. If you have nonprofit experience and want to help make sure our systems and structure match the scale of what we’re doing, we’d love to have you.

Admin & Founder Support — Activate Maine is led by a disabled organizer. If you’re patient, organized, and good at catching the things that fall through the cracks, that’s a meaningful role and we’d love to talk.

Every single one of these matters. You don’t need a title. You don’t need experience. You just have to give a damn and show up.

Our Mission

Connecting Activists
Across Maine

Activate Maine exists to make showing up for democracy easier — connecting Mainers in every corner of the state to the tools, events, and organizations they need to act.
